What to Wear with Denim Shoes

March 17th, 2011 Write Comment Inspiration Boards

We see it most on our legs. Sometimes, it’ll be on our backs as part of a vest or jacket. On rare occasions, it’ll be the material our bags are made of. Other than that, though, denim is pretty much a conventional fabric we keep seeing in all the same places.

This is probably why I received an inspiration board request from a customer who wanted to know what she can wear with denim shoes. It can be hard to imagine the fabric on your feet when you’re accustomed to it being on your legs instead. Worn the right way, however, denim shoes can be a fabulous addition to anyone’s wardrobe. For your inspiration, here are three ways to wear them, starring the denim pairs from Love Walks In.

Wear It with a Lace Dress

Secret Garden Wedges, P750

These denim wedges and their adorable floral print are love in shoe form. You can try wearing them with one of the many lace dresses we sell at Ukay Manila to create a gorgeous contrast between fabrics. The tender softness of lace ties well with denim’s normally-tough appearance, thanks to the flowers balancing them out. The bows at the tips of the shoes enhance the dress’ romantic qualities.

Wear It with Khaki Shorts

Tribe of Denim, P595

Talk about odd couples – we don’t usually match khaki with denim. The brown detail on these Tribe of Denim booties, however, helps bridge the gap between fabrics. The end result is a rather ordinary wardrobe selection made chic and edgy thanks to a pair of unique shoes.

Wear It with a Floral Skirt

Again, we’re using the details on the Secret Garden Wedges to complement other outfit pieces. The floral prints on both the shoes and skirts create a cohesive look full of color and sweetness. Wearing skirts with this peep-toed pair of footwear also gives the added bonus of lengthening your legs, making them irresistible for the handsome young lads across the street.

Use your imagination and try to come up with other fabulous outfits using denim shoes. You can use the shoes’ details to your advantage and create a look that’s totally you. The most important thing is that you have fun with what you’re wearing.

Six Ways to Wear Quirky Shoes

February 24th, 2011 Write Comment Inspiration Boards

We’ve all had those moments – you find a pair of shoes you fall head over heels over, but stop yourself from snatching off the shelves because you have no idea what to wear them with. This usually rings true for the quirky pairs of footwear, the kind you know are too cute and unique to pass up. The truth is, though, that you don’t need to leave the store empty-handed and full of regret. Putting together an outfit around a pair of unconventional shoes is a lot easier than you think. In fact, we’ve got a whopping SIX tips for wearing School’s Out from Love Walks In:

Neutrals often get a bad rap for looking “boring”. When matched with something bright and sunny, however, they create a perfect balance of boldness and restraint. In this outfit, the shoes bring a pop of color to the dominantly-brown ensemble without being overwhelming. Red accessories tie the entire outfit together by complementing the plaid panels on the shoes.

The shoes also look fantastic with the classic white tee and jeans combo. Again, that pop of color brings loads of personality into something that would have otherwise been overlooked. Although any white top works, the ruffles in this picture go well with the details on this particular pair of shoes.

Mixing the shoes up with complementary patterns gives your outfit a sense of cohesiveness; the texture and vibrancy of the accents run from head to toe in a subtle, elegant fashion. For School’s Out, we like pairing off the plaid details with small patterns in similar colors. By balancing things off with a sweet khaki skirt, we keep the look from becoming a dizzying mess.

You can also choose to go the opposite way and dress to highlight the shoes’ dominant color. School’s Out looks great with a yellow dress, thanks in large part to the plaid parts keeping things from being too matchy-matchy. You can add more depth to the outfit by wearing different shades of yellow. This sort of look is ideal for days where you feel like a burst of sunshine.

If color’s not your thing, you can still pull off a spunky pair of shoes by matching them with blacks. Black goes with anything, even the most offbeat accessories. Try wearing the shoes with a basic black dress to create a nice contrast, or even it out by mixing up a black skirt with a top that complements the shoes.

You can achieve a cohesive look by layering items in your outfit to suit the shoes’ colors. School’s Out, for example, looks adorable when worn with a yellow or red cardigan. You can refine the look even further by creating a bit of distance between the pieces. In this board, the denim skirt puts a contrasting color in between the cardigan and shoes, helping you keep the uniformity in color without making you look like you’re wearing a uniform.

Of course, all these are tips, not rules you absolutely must follow for wearing quirky shoes. Have fun with your personal style, experiment with the shoes, and see what works for you!

There’s Something About Sapphire

February 18th, 2011 Write Comment Inspiration Boards

We’re seeing sapphire everywhere, from red carpet events to the engagement party of a future princess. Media darlings Anne Hathaway, Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon and Christine Lakin were all spotted wearing dresses in the gorgeous shade of blue, which was also the color Kate Middleton wore to her engagement party last November.

Although we at Ukay Manila aren’t known for following celebrity trends all too often, there’s something about the stunning color that we find irresistible. We just had to get our hands on this beautiful Sapphire Cocktail Dress we were lucky enough to find!

Sapphire Cocktail Dress, P600

You’ll be ready for the paparazzi in this fun and flirty number. Wear it best with accessories in muted blue shades and a few metallic pieces. Jazz up your jewelry-inspired look with an elegant pair of heels. The prettiest thing you can wear with the dress, though, is your very own red-carpet smile.

By Sea or By Land

February 9th, 2011 2 Comments Inspiration Boards

The days are starting to warm up, and we’re already thinking about summer travel! A sunny season trip is the perfect opportunity to dress up. Exploring your wardrobe while exploring the world just makes a lot of sense, wouldn’t you agree?

Black and White Sailor Dress, P350

Planning on a voyage out to sea? You’ll look absolutely adorable on board with this Black and White Sailor Dress. This nautical piece of chicness looks great matched with a navy blazer and a pair of espadrilles. For added fun, throw in a bag that goes with the outfit’s theme. Whether you’re feeling like a luxury cruiser on an expensive yacht, or like a pirate scouring the seas for treasure, the dress will keep you looking fabulous on your adventure.

Gray Embroidered Vest, P350

If you prefer to keep to your land-lubbin’ ways and go on a road trip, you’ll love having this Gray Embroidered Vest as part of your ensemble. It’s perfect for keeping cool during the warm summer days. Wear it over a sweet-looking dress to create an attractive balance between charming and edgy. While the embroidery on the bag makes floral bags and pendants ideal accessories for this piece, we can think of a more extreme accent for the thrill-seekers among us – a motorcycle racing down the roads as you explore the countryside!

We’ll be bringing new items to the store this coming Valentine’s Day, so make sure to stop by the store before leaving for that hot date! See you soon!

Making Unusual Prints Work

January 27th, 2011 Write Comment Inspiration Boards

A lot of girls tend to stay away from unusual prints because they have no idea how to wear them. That off-beat piece in the store window might look stunning, but what on Earth would you match it with? The secret to pulling off an atypical design is simply to run with it. Let loose with it. Go wild. Take that out-of-the-ordinary print and make it your own! You’ll look absolutely fabulous and – even better – totally unique.

Starstruck Dress, P500

Take this Starstruck Dress, for example. While some folks might think it looks a little between flashy and childish, we think it’s a perfect excuse to go out and party like a rock star. Own the dress and pair off with your own sparkle, in your shoes and accessories. Complement the look with some sassy shades and a quirky bag, and you’ll be turning heads in a good way.

Navajo Print Skirt, P350

This Navajo Print Skirt, on the other hand, lets you put together outfits that you probably wouldn’t have thought of straight away. We suggest sticking with the Native American feel of the skirt and accessorize it with some gorgeous stones and gold bracelets. Even better, look for items with feathers and go for the authentic-chic look. Earthy tones and light neutrals work best in terms of tops and shoes, but don’t be afraid to experiment. Use your imagination and, as Tim Gunn would say, make it work!
